Course Description According to the Commom European Framework of Reference OUR STANDARD COURSE SEQUENCE consists of
four Basic Use (Elementary) course levels,
one Beginner Review course level,
eight Independent Use (Intermediate and Advanced) course levels and
six Proficient Use (Very Advanced) course levels.
We also offer a READING KNOWLEDGE COURSE SEQUENCE:
Reading Knowledge 1, Reading Knowledge 2 and Reading Knowledge 3.
Topic-related SPECIAL COURSES in various levels are also available.
The standard courses prepare students for internationally recognized German Proficiency Exams like A1/Start Deutsch 1, A2/Start Deutsch 2, B1/Zertifikat Deutsch, Goethe-Zertifikat B2 and Goethe-Zertifikat C1 offered by the Goethe-Institut worldwide. In New York these exams are offered at Deutsches Haus, which is the official Examination Center of the Goethe-Institut.

Send greetings and invitations. Holidays in German speaking countries. Shop at a supermarket, go to a restaurant, move into an apartment. Express likes and dislikes. Describe persons, clothes and pictures. Book: Lagune 2, Chapters 1-20. |

Talk about your profession. Read newspaper articles and listen to radio news. Plan a vacation in a German-speaking country. Book: Lagune 2, Chapters 21-35. |

Beginner Review of Levels A.1.1-A2.2 |
Focuses on grammar, vocabulary and topics covered in the basic levels A1.1-A2.2. Prepositions, past tense, modal verbs, pronouns, dative and accusative cases and other grammatical topics are reviewed. No book required. $10 copy fee. |

Independent UseThe levels B1.1 through the three courses A, B, C in level B1.3 prepare students for the exam B1/Zertifikat Deutsch (offered at Deutsches Haus). The three courses A, B, C in level B2.1 prepare students for the exam Goethe-Zertifikat B2. |

The three A, B, C courses complete the level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference. Students expand their German language skills by working with vocabulary, idiomatic expressions and grammar on the very advanced level. These courses do not need to be taken in sequential order. Reading Knowledge
The three courses RK1, RK2 and RK3 are designed for graduate students and professionals who want to focus on reading and translating German texts.The courses are conducted in English. RK1 and RK2 prepare students for the Reading Knowledge Exam. |

This course is for those who have completed RK1 or CEFR level A2 in the recent past. Complicated structures and texts are studied. Book: Jannach's German for Reading Knowledge, Chapters 16-30
This course is based upon the completion of RK2 and focuses on reading and translating German texts from publications in selected fields. No book required. $10 copy fee. |
